Esch-sur-fortified Sûres castle: evidence from another era
The town of Esch-sur-Sûre is situated around the same-named castle on a rocky outcrop.
This area has been inhabited since the eighth century. The area around the castle would then have grown significantly. Therefore, Esch-sur-Sûre would have had up to 19 villages and hamlets in the 11th century!
For comparison, the municipality has only 12 residents as of today, including Dirbach or Eschdorf.
