Location
Stegen is a small, quiet village in eastern Luxembourg belonging to the Vallée de l'Ernz commune in the canton of Diekirch. The commune was created in 2012 by the merger of the communes of Ermsdorf and Medernach. It comprises the towns of Ermsdorf, Eppeldorf, Folkendange, Keiwelbach, Medernach, Stegen and Savelborn, as well as around fifteen farms and single-family homes.
The municipality has a sports hall in Medernach and a soccer center with two new synthetic pitches at "Bloen Eck" in Stegen. There is also a well-known café-restaurant of the same name. St. Bartholomew's Church in the center of Stegen was declared a national monument in 2021.
Stegen is just a 10-minute drive from the center of Ettelbruck. Here you'll find a host of restaurants, stores and schools, as well as the Centre Hospitalier du Nord. Ingeldorf (10 minutes by car) is home to several large supermarkets, household appliance and furniture stores, as well as various car workshops. In Diekirch (15 minutes by car), you'll find a wide variety of restaurants and cafés, as well as a cinema.
Schools
The school building in Ermsdorf caters for children in cycle 1 who live in Ermsdorf, Eppeldorf, Stegen, Folkendange or Keiwelbach. The Medernach school infrastructure comprises three buildings, two of which are dedicated to early years and pre-school education, and one to basic education for cycles 2.1. to 4.2. and accommodates around 250 pupils. The municipality of Vallée de l'Ernz is currently building a new school complex for the entire municipality in Medernach, which also includes a new halfway house and a new gymnasium. Completion is scheduled for the 2021/2022 school year.
Nearby, there are several high schools in Ettelbruck, Diekirch and Luxembourg City, all of which are served by public transport and therefore easily accessible.
In Stegen, there's also a riding school offering professional riding lessons and organizing tournaments.
Transport
The "Bloen Eck" bus stop is in the immediate vicinity and is served by bus routes 101, 105, 409, 504 and 507.

Route 504: Ettelbruck - Haller

Routes 101 and 507 also serve secondary schools in Luxembourg, Ettelbruck and Diekirch during the school year.
The nearest station is in Ettelbruck (15 minutes by car), served by line 10 of the Chemins de fer luxembourgeois (CFL) network, which runs from Luxembourg City to Troisvierges. The station is currently undergoing a complete renovation. A "Park & Ride" park-and-ride facility with over 400 spaces and a new bus station are also part of the project. Luxembourg-Gare can be reached in 30 minutes by train.
Thanks to close access to the A7 freeway via Ingeldorf, Kirchberg is only 30 minutes away by car. The towns of Mersch and Esch-sur-Alzette are 15 and 50 minutes respectively by car.
